Course Details

Our abrasive wheels training courses are designed for anyone involved in the handling and fitting of abrasive wheels to:

 

  • Portable hand held cutting off machines
  • Angle grinders
  • Stihl saws
  • Bench mounted grinding machines
  • Pedestal mounted grinding machines

The courses can be adjusted to suit novice operators, experienced users and candidates requiring refresher training.The training courses are devised to cover the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and the Guidance laid out in HSG17: Safety in the use of Abrasive Wheels.

This training does not certificate the candidate in the use of the cutting off machine. It only covers the requirement of the regulations covering the storage, selection, examination and fitting of abrasive wheels.

Course Content

Our abrasive wheels training courses cover the following theoretical and practical elements:

 

Theoretical Training

  • Regulations governing abrasives wheels
  • Operators safety code
  • Wheel markings and spindle speeds
  • Pre-use checks
  • Correct PPE: selection and use
  • Storage and handling of abrasive wheels

 

Practical Training

  • Examination and fitting of  abrasive wheels to portable cutting off machines
  • Examination and fitting of  abrasive wheels to fixed machines (where available)
  • Wheel dressing (where available)
  • Adjustment of guards
  • Safe use

At the end of  the course each candidate receives an Abrasive Wheels certificate of training and Operators Card.This training does not certificate the candidate in the use of the cutting off machine. It only covers the requirement of the regulations covering the storage, selection, examination and fitting of abrasive wheels.
