Course Details

The BA (Hons) Accounting degree course at Cardiff Met is professionally accredited by the by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. As such, students may obtain the maximum number of exemptions from these bodies’ professional examinations. 

The course will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to all areas of accounting and prepares you for further study at the final stages of professional accounting qualifications. 

Students selecting the sandwich option undertake a yearlong work placement between their second and third years of study. In addition, we have an ongoing strategic partnership with Graham Paul Chartered Accountants, which provides paid 12-week summer placements for a number of Cardiff Met students, with a view to offering permanent graduate training contracts.

This degree will undergo a periodic review in 2023/4 to ensure the course content is and remains current. Should any changes to course content be made as a result of the review, all applicants will be informed once changes are confirmed.

Learning & Teaching:

  • In most modules teaching consists of a series of short lectures each week, accompanied by two hours of seminars per week.  Seminars are practically based and are usually run as workshops where students have an opportunity to practise the material covered in the lectures.  
  • All modules are fully supported by the university's VLE for a blended learning approach and students may also make appointments with module tutors and personal tutors at any mutually convenient time.
  • Students are encouraged to engage with extra-curricular activities including short courses in various computer applications and entrepreneurship.
  • The teaching team consists of enthusiastic professionals with both industry experience as qualified accountants and relevant research activity.

  • GCSE: Five GCSEs at Grade C / 4 or above to include English Language / Welsh First Language, Mathematics / Mathematics – Numeracy.
  • English Language Requirement: Academic IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in all elements, or equivalent.
  • A level subjects: Minimum three A levels to include Grades CCC. No specific subjects required. Welsh Baccalaureate – Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate considered as a third subject.
  • BTEC National / Cambridge Tec?hnical Extended Diploma: DMM
  • T Level: Merit.
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma: No specific subjects required.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 2 x H5. No specific subjects required.
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: 2 x H2 grades. No specific subjects required. Higher level subjects only considered with a minimum grade H4.
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: Grades DD. No specific subjects required. Scottish Highers are also considered, either on their own or in combination with Advanced Highers.
