All Acro classes will follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus working towards Acro exams in October. Exams are optional but lots of fun! They are far more relaxed to other dancing exams and we had several students say they cant wait for the next lot of exams! Students are required to learn all skills confidently to progress to the next level.
We are an Acrobatic Dance school with some dance and technique classes to help our dancers to reach their potential as Acro Dancers. Acro Dance is a style of dance that incorporates elements from artistic gymnastics, ballet, lyrical, jazz, contortion, yoga and acro yoga.
We follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus which has been created in Canada with input from Cirque du Soleil, physiotherapists, dance teachers in ballet, jazz, modern, hand balancing specialists and more!
Acro focuses on 5 main elements: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Partnering and Tumbling.
This discipline places emphasis on athleticism, agility, strength, control, flexibility and balance. We believe here at WADPA, that being an all-round performer, acro dance is very important to study and it also compliments other genres such as ballet and jazz.
It is a genre of dance which seamlessly fuses elements of lyrical gymnastics tricks, balancing, tumbling, and jazz.
Acro adds the wow factor to dance repertoire, creating fluid transitions within Jazz & Lyrical work.
Acrobatic dance has recently become very popular largely thanks to exposure on shows like Dance Moms and So You Think You Can Dance.
These classes do not follow a syllabus but are proving to be very popular thanks to shows like “BGT and World of Dance”.
