Description
Acute Cardiology Simulation Training (ACST) is an interactive course that aims to develop the skills and knowledge required for common cardiology scenarios. Expert faculty will help you learn to manage acutely unwell patients in a systematic manner.
Aims
Participants will have the opportunity to tackle themed scenarios based on an acutely unwell patient. Common presentations such as tachyarrhythmia, bradyarrhythmia, acute LVF and pulmonary embolism will be covered.
Objectives
This course is most suitable for Core Medical Trainees at any level, or ST3 trainees in any speciality. It would also be suitable for candidates who have completed Foundation Training and are taking time out of program. It is not suitable for current Foundation Trainees.
Learning outcomes
ACST focuses on clinical simulated patient emergency scenarios, with case summaries and extensive feedback following each scenario. You will be encouraged to participate and share knowledge and experience throughout the lectures and course generally.
Simulated patient scenarios take place in a realistic clinical setting, with the participant having the opportunity to:
Assess an unwell patient: with real time access to clinical notes, clinical observations, telemetry, blood results and 12 lead ECGs
Manage the unwell patient with treatments, including crash trolley access, that will alter the clinical course in real time
Interaction with the MDT including nurses, anaesthetist and Cardiology seniors
Opportunity for debrief and feedback following each scenario
Every participant will take part in at least one simulated patient scenario appropriate for their level of experience, and a mini-CEX assessment will be given as part of the feedback. A certificate of completion will also be provided for all candidates.

The purpose of this course is to enable you to progress in becoming a competent practitioner within the specialism of cardiac care. This will allow you to develop the knowledge and skills required to enable you to participate in the delivery of evidence-based care.
Developments in international, national and local policies, government strategies and drivers and service provision are together making new demands on cardiac care delivery.
The Cardiology programme runs over 5 years. The first 3 years are core training, in which the trainee gains basic cardiology experience.
Specialty training in adult Cardiology in London allows trainees to see and be a part of the breath of state of the art Cardiology practice.
The aim of the course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to understand Electrocardiography (ECG) and its interpretation, the necessary skills and care given to all patients both young and older adults in an accident & emergency care unit, and intensive care units.
