You will learn how to both skipper and crew the boat. We also have one-on-one courses available, these give you a little more flexibility if you are unable to commit to a full six week course and allows for the course to be personalised.
Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club has a proud history of hosting great events to make to most of Wellington Harbour.​ These events range from our fun club day activities and club sailing series through to major events such as regional, national and international regattas. There are many ways to become involved with the Club events and activities, whether it is on a social level, as a competitive yacht racer, a casual boating enthusiast or a club volunteer.
Always wanted to learn how to sail but don't know where to start? Many clubs offer their own in-house learn to sail courses for children and adults and some have yachts that you can borrow as well.
Rotorua Yacht Club follows the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail syllabus. Our children's programme begins in simple, robust Optimist boats, provided by Rotorua Yacht Club. Parents are under no obligation to buy a boat before starting the course.
The IYT Try Sailing Course is a 5 hour course aimed to provide candidates with basic introductory knowledge for crewing a vessel (monohull or catamaran) up to 15 meters in inland or coastal waters <5 miles offshore during daylight hours in moderate wind and sea conditions.
Introductory through to advanced courses to develop sailing competence as crew or skipper in inshore, coastal, and ocean waters. Includes Shorebased Courses. To gain experience of operating a sailing vessel.
The course will cover a range of subjects, including: water safety, names of boat parts, setting up boats, capsizing, launching and retrieving, tacking, gybing, points of sail, basic knots, rules and meanings.Â
