Want to discover the pleasures of sailing in Ottawa? Experience our evening adult sail training in June. LDSC provides an ideal environment for learning to sail:
Introductory Programs - Fundamental Skills Acquisition
LDSC follows Sail Canada CANSail training programs for our Learn to Sail Programs. The programs consist of standards that promote progressive training of skills and knowledge.
CANSail programming means a lot of time spent on the water in a safe, fun, and active learning environment. Our certified instructors will be teaching CANSail I and 2.
Each CANSail level takes approximately 20 hours to complete or eight nights on average. Adept students have been able to complete multiple levels in this time frame. Students receive a CANSail certificate should they pass their level(s).
CANSail 1 - Introduction to Sailing. CANSail 1 teaches students the fundamental sailing skills and boat handling on all points of sail. Students can sail within defined boundaries set by a coach.
CANSail 2 - Basic Sailing. CANSail 2 teaches students to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing and to perform boat handling maneuvers.
What Do I Need To Bring?
Lac Deschênes Sailing Club (LDSC) is a not-for-profit volunteer organization established in 1966 to provide a venue for small boat sailors in the Ottawa region.
LDSC offers a unique sailing experience and a family friendly cottage atmosphere which features a beach for launching for dry sailed dinghies and cats as well as wet moorings for 20 keel boats.
Nestled in Shirleys Bay, in Ottawa, Ontario, LDSC offers superb sailing conditions and protection from the typical northwest winds that come down the Ottawa River. Setup and launching is convenient and comfortable.
Our dedicated instructors provide professional sail training for youth and adults, from beginner through to advanced levels. Our community atmosphere encourages new members to quickly and confidently get out on the water with the support of the more seasoned sailors.
LDSC members have access to all club facilities, including the clubhouse, the boat launch, the tender storage space, the mooring field, plus a robust social program and guest privileges.
As well, membership includes reciprocal inter-club privileges with the Nepean Sailing Club and the Britannia Yacht Club.
