Training in the movements of Bharathanatyam steps, gestures and other elements, progressing to various recital items such as alaripu, thillanas, jathiswarams, varnamsand other compositions upto the performance of recitals namely Salangai Pooja and Arangetram.
This dance form denotes various 19th and 20th century reconstructions of Sadir, the art of temple dancers. Sadir in turn, is derived from ancient dance forms that includes some acrobatic karanas.
BharatNatyam originated in southern India in the state of Tamilnadu. It started as a temple dance tradition called Dasiyattam (the dance of the maidservants) 2000 years ago and is perhaps the most advanced and evolved dance form of all the classical Indian dance forms.
