Advanced Directing
Plan and manage film and media pre-production activities
Students will analyse the work of directors to recognise their creative approaches, as well as explore alternative mediums where directors can display these approaches.
They will collaborate with cast and crew, working within the operational requirements of filmmaking and gaining a holistic understanding of the cinematic process. Advanced Camera - Direct cinematography for screen productions, CUALGT514 - Develop lighting designs
In Advanced Camera, students undergo intensive training in the use of digital video motion picture cameras and their accessories to prepare them for their student productions, as well as professional productions and opportunities that will present themselves after graduation. Being a competent filmmaker is not just understanding how to direct and produce, but also how to use equipment vital for successful motion picture storytelling.
Screenwriting Studio - Edit scripts
Screenwriting Studio introduces the student to the fundamentals of feature film screenwriting. It is a fast-paced, intensive workshop that explores the fundamentals of screenwriting in which the students will be asked to articulate, present, debate, and rework and edit their ideas, research, and narrative projects with their classmates and instructor.
Advanced Editing - Edit complex media productions
In this subject, students learn to engage with the creative process of editing and post-production, utilising digital editing and other post-production software film theory, history, and aesthetics to explore editing at an advanced level. In doing so, students will edit and post-produce commercial and dramatic content made by students.
Students will also gain a broad knowledge of the post-production process, learning how editing relates to the overall production of digital content and its relationship to other departments within the production process. Students will also prepare to work in post-production.
Advanced Production Studio - Direct screen production crews, Evolve ideas for professional creative work
Students will learn how to brief and direct a crew, and evaluate all aspects of filmmaking from a director’s perspective. This will involve rehearsing and directing shoots.
Students will collaborate with others to generate and develop ideas and rectify creative issues. As a part of this process, students will learn to coordinate, assess, and finalise sound design.
Advanced Screenwriting - Write scripts
The focus of this class is for students to write their Advanced Final Film screenplays. Advanced Screenwriting allows students to hone and perfect their skills as storytellers, creating a rich and nuanced short screenplay to serve as the foundation for their Advanced Final.
Producing - Engage in the business of creative practice, Work professionally in the creative arts industry
In Advanced Short Film Producing, students will apply the fundamentals of film producing. Instructors will mentor students through every aspect of production, including producer rights, industry advisors, work health and safety, production documentation, and effective work relationships.
Students will implement action plans, timelines, schedules, and budgets for realising productions, and take into account key objectives and scope of production, professional and ethical standards, finances, deadlines, and legislative requirements.
