Aerial Work Platform Training
Is an Entry-Level course required for any worker who intends to operate or use an aerial lift on the job, or find work as an industrial equipment operator and/or a technician at heights.
Fall Protection is a prerequisite for Aerial Work Platform training. Supplemental courses may include First Aid and/or Rope Access Training.
Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:
An Aerial Work Platform is a piece of industrial equipment that allows workers to access workspaces at heights. An Aerial Work Platform can be manipulated into place through use of a telehandler, which differentiates Aerial Work Platform vehicles from vertical scissor lifts.
Aerial Work Platforms are very useful for accessing hard-to-reach workspaces, but because use of aerial work platforms may involve work at heights, unbalanced loads, and susceptibility to weather conditions, it is critical that all operators understand how to manage and avoid all associated hazards.
Topics Include:
This one-day Aerial Work Platform course explains the design, purpose and function of aerial work and covers provincial and federal regulations concerning the use of work platforms.
Trainees learn how to practice awareness of safety hazards such as dangerous weather, falling objects and unstable counterweights. General Fall Protection Awareness is discussed as well as the specific fall hazards posed by platforms.
Following classroom training, each trainee gets practicum experience with a pre-start inspection, gets hand-on experience in platform operation and then completes a written test to be certified as an Aerial Lift Platform operator.
