Course Details

This 3-day course will guide you through the key techniques for working in after effects. Learn how to create, manipulate, and optimize motion graphics for film, video, the web, and mobile devices.

If you are a creative professional wanting the fastest, easiest, most comprehensive way to learn Adobe After Effects choose the Adobe After Effects Intensive training course.

You will gain hands-on experience animating text and images, customizing a wide range of effects, tracking and syncing content, rotoscoping, distorting and warping images and video, and correcting colour. You will create Motion Graphics templates in After Effects so colleagues can make specific edits in Premiere Pro without accidentally changing other critical settings. A bonus is learning to create 3D content with both After Effects and Maxon Cinema 4D Lite. All training uses the Official Adobe workbook and project files for extra reference after the course. Receive a Certificate of Completion.

Day 1

Getting to Know the Workflow

The first lesson uses a sample project to provide an overview of the typical After Effects workflow, from creating a project to importing footage, creating a composition, applying effects, and outputting content. Additionally, you will be introduced to the elements of the After Effects work area.

Basic Animations using Effects and Presets

Lesson 2 explores how to create a composition using presets. After Effects makes it possible to produce great-looking animations quickly using hundreds of fully customizable animation presets, including presets for animating text, effects, transitions, backgrounds, and behaviours.

Animating Text

With After Effects, you can add text to layers with flexibility and precision. You can create and edit text directly onscreen in the Composition panel, and quickly change the font, style, size, and colour of the text. You can apply changes to individual characters and set formatting options for entire paragraphs, including alignment, justification, and word wrapping. In addition to all of these style features, After Effects provides tools for easily animating specific characters and features, such as text opacity and hue.

Working with Shape Layers

This lesson focuses on shape layers which are separate layers that contain vector objects called shapes. A shape consists of a path, a stroke, and a fill. Shape layers provide a straightforward way of creating filled shapes in composition, without having to create a solid layer and then mask it.

Animating a Multimedia Presentation

Lesson 5 builds a complex animation involving multiple layers, several types of keyframes, audio, and more. It includes a layered Illustrator file. Learn how After Effects works with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator files.

Day 2

Animating Layers

In Lesson 6 you will work with the Layer panel, which you will use to remap time. You will also use the Graph Editor to edit Time Remap keyframes.

Working with Masks
You'll be introduced to the concept of masks in Lesson 7. Learn to create masks in After Effects using the Pen tool and use Illustrator to create and use masks in After Effects.

Distorting Objects with the Puppet Tools

You will use the Puppet tools to animate a character slipping on a banana peel. The Puppet tools let you pull, push, stretch, twist, and otherwise distort objects in a composition. There are four Puppet tools: You use three of the tools to place pins that determine how and where distortion occurs; the remaining tool makes it easier to record the pins animation.

Using the Roto Brush Tools

Learn the process of rotoscoping, which is commonly used in video production to remove the background of a clip so that you can place the subject in another environment. The Roto Brush tool makes rotoscoping much faster than the method of manually drawing Bezier masks on most frames individually. In most cases, the Roto Brush tool is also a more efficient alternative to traditional keying methods.

Colour Corrections

Lesson 10 covers colour correction. Gain a strong understanding of colour and colour management. You will find this is useful to ensure that colour appears on a viewer's system as you, the video editor sees it on yours.

Day 3

Creating Motion Graphics Templates

Motion graphics are no longer just for movie and television screens. You now see motion graphics anywhere there's a moving image, including your desktop web browser, smartphone, and digital signage. Creating motion graphics with Adobe After Effects can enhance your value as a creative professional.

Using 3D Features

This lesson covers many aspects of 3D animation in After Effects, and in the Maxon Cinema 4D Lite application that comes with After Effects. You will also work with 3D elements, adding them to a video using the 3D Camera Tracker.

3D Camera Tracker

Learn to use the 3D Camera Tracker to analyze video sequences and extract camera motion and 3D scene data so you can accurately composite 3D elements over 2D footage.

Advanced Editing Techniques

You will cover some of the advanced editing techniques available in After Effects. Stabilize your video clip, use particle simulation, retime playback, along with single and multipoint tracking.

Rendering and Output

Once you have finished assembling and editing clips, it's time to get your final production out of your computer and on its way to distribution. The final lesson covers the topics of rendering and outputting.
