AI Programming With Python

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to programming using the Python programming language, with a specific focus on data science. This means the skills and knowledge required to conduct and problem solve data science experiments programmatically.

Upon completing the course, participants will be able to analyse data science problems and conduct experiments by assembling a series of computer instructions to solve problems programmatically.

Participants will be able to explain and write computer instructions that employ the use of variables, input and output statements, decision making constructs, repetition constructs and functions.

They will also learn to test and debug computer programs to ensure that programs perform as they are intended to. Popular libraries used for data science will also be covered.

• Stages of the programming cycle (edit, compile/interpret, execute)
• Programming problem solving skills (problem decomposition, pattern recognition, pattern generalisation and abstraction, algorithm design)
• Data variables and data types
• Expressions and input and output statements
• Decision making constructs
• Repetition constructs (counter controlled versus sentinel controlled)
• Functions for code clarity and code re-use, and function calls
• Numpy for fast array operations
• Matplotlib for data visualisation
• Pandas for high-level data manipulation
