Nearly 50 Years of Dedicated Community Support ~ and much more to come!
The charity started its life in 1974 and has continued to evolve over the years. We took the the decision to rename the charity from SWADS to IPSUM as we felt this better reflected the new direction that the charity was taking. Our core strengths in talking and creative therapies gave us the foundations upon which to develop our services.
We work alongside many of the colleges and universities in the area as a placement provider for level 4/5 courses as well as postgraduate.

IPSUM is a latin word meaning 'self' this translated our ipsum.care to 'self care' which better reflects the charity that we are today.
Over recent years IPSUM has built on that reputation to develop a range of therapies, broadening its operation to compliment its core professional counselling:
“When something makes you angry, adrenalin causes your body to prepare for ‘fight or flight’, giving you energy and making you feel tense. Releasing this energy and tension is good for you, but it can be difficult to do so in ways that are constructive.” (Mind)
Anger is a universal experience. Dogs get angry, bees get angry, and so do humans. You don’t have to be a psychologist to know that managing anger productively is something few individuals, organisations, and societies do well.
Anger is universal; it is something we all feel and something we can all relate to. At any point in time, a combination of physical, mental and social factors interact to make us feel a certain way. It’s different for each of us and at times our reactions can impact ourselves and others around us...
The opportunity to understand when anger becomes and issue and teach you techniques that can be used to break the negative cycle.
Anger management is a term used to describe the skills required to recognise that we, or someone else, is becoming angry and to take the appropriate action to deal with such situations in a positive way.
