Animation is the capturing of sequential, static images—drawings or photos of inanimate objects—and playing them in rapid succession to mimic real world motion. If you’ve ever seen a flip book, you know how it works.
animation is actually a process that creates a kind of illusion of movement on lifeless things, drawings, and models. When taking into account that the Latin term from which the word animation originated means to revive or give the soul, animation can be categorized as giving the soul to lifeless things, that is, drawings or models.
What Is Stop Motion Animation?
Stop motion is when the character is still and not moving. For example, in the classic Snow White cartoon, the Snow Queen is walking and talking while her feet are moving.
In this form of traditional animation motion, the character is still but the viewer can tell that it is not moving. Pre-motion animation motion is when the movements of the character happen as the camera stays still for some frames.
For example, in the opening credits of many animated movies, you will see the credits appear and disappear as well as flashlights appear and go out as the credits play in the background.
Why Make Animation?
Animation is a powerful tool for communicating ideas and stories. It can be used to communicate information that may not be conveyed in other mediums such as books or films. Animation is a powerful tool that can be used to tell any story imaginable.
Whether it’s for children or adults, animation has the power to captivate an audience and change their perspective on things they never thought possible.
