Arabic is the official language in 22 Arab countries. It is also the liturgical language of Islam, the faith of over 1.8 billion people worldwide. There is a whole spectrum of spoken Arabic dialects, with 350-400 million native speakers worldwide, of which the most common (90 million speakers) is the Egyptian dialect. There is, however, a single official written version of the language: Modern Standard Arabic or Literary Arabic.
Arabic Beginners (Level 1)
This is for you if you have no prior knowledge of Arabic (or so little that you effectively want to start again from scratch). You will learn basic skills to enable you to make yourself understood and to find out information in everyday situations.
Arabic Post-beginners (Level 2)
You can already manage in everyday situations using the present tense. You have reached the A1 level in the ELP self-assessment grid and/or completed the Beginners (level 1) Course.
Arabic Intermediate (Level 3)
You have reached a level 2 in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to a good grade at GSCE) and/or completed the Post-beginners (level 2) Course.
Arabic Upper-intermediate (Level 4)
You have reached the first half of the B1 level in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to an A-Level grade F to C) and/or completed the Intermediate (level 3) course.
