Argentine Tango, which originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is considered one of the most beautiful dances in the world. In the 1920's and 30's it traveled across the ocean to the elegant salons of Paris and also became popular among bohemians in the United States.
It reached its peak popularity in the 1940's with the melancholy and nostalgic voice of Carlos Gardel and the great tango orchestras that flourished during this period. The lyrics were written by poets drunk on life, women and love. Today, Tango is celebrated around the world and is one of the most prominent dances in Los Angeles.
We offer a more comprehensive program than any other dance studio in Los Angeles. Because we have more than one classroom, we often run two or more classes simultaneously.
This gives great depth to our program and we are able to offer beginning thru advanced levels in each of the popular styles of dance. Our program's versatility allows you to advance at your own pace; many of our students attend class two or three times per week.
3rd Street Dance has been teaching Los Angeles to dance for over 35 years. We offer a comprehensive dance curriculum for adults in all styles of dance.
The Tango is one of the most highly stylized ballroom dances. It is dramatic with measured crossing and flexing steps and poised pauses. Perhaps the main reason for its widespread popularity is that it is danced close to the partner.
Argentine Tango is known to be a dance of passion and connection. A highly individualistic and improvisational dance, with endless possibilities in its intricately woven steps, this dance provides freedom for musical expression via movement through time.
Traveling Dance: Ballroom Smooth. Originally from Argentina, Tango is a dramatic dance with styling options that can be sharp and aggressive, playful or smooth and romantic. We teach American, International and Argentine Tangos.
We usually start a bit later, as new students are signing in and taking care of the admin stuff. But not too much later, about 10 minutes or so. We certainly make up for that by ending the class later as well. I would not dare to take away precious dance time from anybody.
