Course Details

Do you work where you could possibly be exposed to Asbestos? All workers who may come across asbestos or asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) must be trained so they can work safely.

Our 2-hour course can be held at your premises or in our training room and will give you a broad overview of what asbestos is, the likely building materials that it is found in and provide a better understanding of what to look for. The course will help your staff understand the dangers and health effects associated with asbestos.

Chemsafety’s presenters are chemistry graduates with qualifications that include the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) and Asbestos Proficiency Certificates in the P400 series.

They have a long and extensive amount of experience in undertaking asbestos audits and monitoring across a broad range of New Zealand workplaces. Our team also hold current New Zealand Asbestos Assessor Licence’s.

Why you should take the course:

  • Asbestos is still present in many New Zealand workplaces, however, an increasing number of personnel are not familiar with it.
  • There are specific regulations detailing what can and can’t be done with asbestos materials, but do you know where asbestos is at your site?
  • Do your maintenance personnel and contractors know how to recognise suspected asbestos materials, and what to do if they find some

Topics covered on the course include:

  • What is asbestos
  • Asbestos legislation
  • Why, when and where it was used
  • What you can and can’t do
  • Identifying potential asbestos materials
  • Safe work procedures
  • Health effects
  • Asbestos registers and ongoing condition checks
