B.Des (Interior Design)

B.Des. in Interior Design is a 4-year course that is designed to teach students the concepts that go into planning, designing, organizing, and managing spaces, based on their function. Interior design programs take students through a detailed study about the various principles and elements of design, of which, training in 2D and 3D design software is an integral part.

Interior Design creates comfortable and inspiring spatial environment. It develops the sense of association between the user and the space that redefines the satisfaction of the end user. Manipal University, Jaipur has adopted the Choice based credit system which allows the flexibility in education system, so that students depending upon their interests and aims can choose interdisciplinary, intra-disciplinary and skill-based courses.

Also, students have an option to exit the program in 3 years with B.A in Interior Design. The program intends to take the students through an array of structural requirements, mechanical and electrical services, health and safety issues, and building codes as well.

The program aims to prepare professionals to work as Interior Designers, Graphic Designers, Space Consultants for Exhibitions, Theatres and Museums, Specialist for Visual Merchandising, Freelance Designer, Furniture Designer, Lighting Designer to name a few. Interior Designers may also be employed by architects, builders, private consultancies & various MNCs etc.

Objectives

• To promote intellectual inquiry among students, along with their creative expression and originality through structured curriculum that balance theory with practice, planning, and experimentation; art and technology; as well as creativity and logic.
• To encourage development among students of visual fluency along with the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills required in various elements and principles of design, drawing and color.
• To encourage learning based on Computer Aided Design (CAD), interior space planning, lighting, sustainability, materials and finishes, structures, surfaces and codes, etc. that are specific to both, residential as well as non-residential situations.
• To sensitize the students about the impact of interior design on built environment by developing analytical skills to add excellency and efficiency for the well-being of the occupants.
• To equip students with the basics of technical, creative, theoretical, and management skills for successful creation and execution of interior design schemes.
• To create an understanding of multidisciplinary approach with illustrators, sculptors, fashion designers, and architects to add creative insight and depth into the design process.
• To develop skills for creative solutions for assimilation of diverse elements of interior, such as furniture, lighting, upholstery, colour scheme, etc. along with building services.
• To support the development of research, thinking, and communication processes to enable to envisage creative and innovative solutions to design problems.

Eligibility:
50% aggregate marks in 10+2 scheme or 10+3 Diploma (Govt. recognized) or IB Diploma, after 10th standard

Admissions are offered on the basis of merit list prepared out of final marks for qualifying examination and a personal discussion.

Note- B.Des.(Interior Design) with exit option in 4 year with B.A. (Interior Design) degree.

Rapid urbanization has led to continuous growth of optimized spaces for different purposes such as residential, commercial, official, retail, hotels, etc. Interior Designers are in demand to make these optimized spaces more comfortable, beautiful, efficient and multi-dimensional in utility.

In modern context, the sensitization towards DESIGN through this program opens up career avenues in space aesthetics and related areas across. Interior Designers graduating from the course have a wide ranging creative skill set with clear visual communication abilities. The four-year/three-year professional program is highly innovative and job oriented leading to working opportunities in India and abroad in sectors like:

Graduates can pursue post-graduation and can also appear for administrative services and management programs. Students who complete their B.Des. Interior Design / B.A. Interior Design successfully can opt for higher studies in the same field. 

They can pursue M.Des. Interior Design / M.A. Interior Design or even a Post Graduate Diploma. They can opt for MBA or specialize in a sub field of Interior Design, for example, in furniture design, kitchen design, graphic design, interior accessories design etc.
