Lower Divison Requirements

  • All students must have completed the following courses (or equivalent) prior to starting the BS in Cybersecurity program.

Students must complete the following courses as part of their course work, preferably during the first 60 credits:

  • PSY 2012 – Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
  • ECO 2013 – Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credits)
  • STA 2023 – Stat for Business and Economics (3 credits) or STA 2122 – Stat for Behav and Social Sci (3 credits)
  • MAC 1147 – Pre-Calculus Algebra & Trig (4 credits)
  • PHY 1000-2999 – Any Physics course (3-5 credits)
  • MAD 2104 – Discrete Mathematics or COT 3100 – Discrete Structures (3 credits)
  • CGS 1540 – Introduction to Databases for All or CTS 1500 – Emerging Topics in Digital Life or CTS 1120  – Fundamentals of Cybersecurity (3 credits)
  • COP 2270 – Secure C Programming for Engineers (3 credits)
  • COP 2250 – Programming in Java (3 credits)

At least 50 percent of the upper division credits required for the BS in Cybersecurity must be taken at FIU.

  • CNT 4403 – Computing & Network Security (3 credits)
  • COP 3804 – Intermediate Java (3 credits)
  • COP 4703 – Information Storage & Retrieval (3 credits)
  • ENC 3249 – Professional and Technical Writing for Computing (3 credits) [taught by English Department]
  • CIS 3950 – Capstone I

  • COP 4814 – Component-Based Software Dev.
  • COT 4601 – Fundamentals of Quantum Computing
  • CTS 4348 – UNIX Admin
  • CTS 4408 – Database Admin
  • CTS 4743 – Enterprise IT Troubleshooting
  • EEL 4802 – Introduction to Digital Forensics Engineering
  • EEL 4804 – Introduction Malware Reverse Engineering

Interdisciplinary Courses – 9 credits

  • Nine additional credits must be taken from one cognitive area outside of Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences.  For example, 9 credits within a minor or certificate meets this requirement. When there is no minor or certificate in the area of the student’s interest, a set of courses can be created with the approval of advisers from the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences and from the other area of interest
