I’m Katie, founder of Bump to Baby, Infant Massage Instructor, and māmā & stepmum to two beautiful boys. I’ve always loved babies and worked with children & their families as a nanny in the UK for 5 years, before moving back to NZ and having a baby of my own in December 2017.
Since becoming a mum, I found myself wanting to give other parents a positive start on their new journey. In 2019, I discovered baby massage and absolutely fell in love. As of March 2020, I became a fully certified Infant Massage Instructor through the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).
What I Do
I teach parents and caregivers how to massage their babies in a safe way, using a combination of Swedish and Indian massage strokes, reflexology and gentle yoga movements. Baby massage has been known to help babies with conditions such as colic, ease discomfort from growing and teething pains, promote relaxation which leads to better sleeping patterns, and there are even studies that show massaging your baby helps with Post-Natal Depression in new mums. At Bump to Baby, we see baby massage as an integral tool that promotes nurturing touch, bonding, attachment and development.
Having a new baby can be pretty confusing and isolating at the best of times, so I wanted to make sure that Bump to Baby is a service that provides support, guidance and practical wellness for all parents and caregivers, in a safe, judgement-free place.
All parents and caregivers are welcome, no matter your age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, etc. For expectant parents we work with baby massage dolls to allow you and/or your partner to prepare for when your baby arrives. We also use dolls if your baby isn't feeling up to being massaged on the day.
All of my classes are baby-led - your baby is the teacher, you are the expert, I'm just there to guide you. Bump to Baby is somewhere you can share your experiences, make friends, grow your confidence as a new parent and learn some lifelong skills to bond with your little one.
