You'll Learn:

  • Data analytics tools

    • Learn the tools and techniques to gather, interpret and analyse data.

  • Social media and visualisation

    • Understand the fundamentals of social media. Learn how to use data analytics to build brand equity and disrupt businesses.

  • Data insight skills

    • Learn the skills to blend business know-how with analytics.

  • Digital disruption

    • Understand how to harness and leverage the power of new digital technologies.

  • IT skills

    • Learn both computer science fundamentals and foundational business skills. Then move into complex analytics using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

  • Business fundamentals

    • Study a major or minor and become a well-rounded data scientist.

 

Prerequisite

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available..

 

What You'll Study

Sample course structure

Please note, the following course structure is indicative and subject to change depending on your course location, offer year or how you tailor your course with specialisations, majors, minors and electives. Structures for the following year are not normally finalised until October, so the sample provided is based on the most recently approved structure. For more information, please refer to the La Trobe University Handbook .

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Business Analytics, students must complete a total of 360 credit points across 3 years.

The course allows you to complete a major or minor which can be selected from the open access major and minor list. Recommended Business majors and minors are:

  • Accountancy (minor only),

  • Economics,

  • Event management,

  • Finance (major only),

  • Human resource management,

  • Investment (minor only),

  • International business,

  • Management (minor only),

  • Marketing (major only),

  • Digital marketing (minor only),

  • Sport management,

  • Tourism and hospitality.

Where one or more subjects are shared between this major and another component (course, second major or minor) the subjects will be replaced with a Business school elective at that level of the common subject.

Where a combination of this major and another component (course, second major or minor) exceeds 4 common subjects this combination will become incompatible.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with a range of stakeholders, using a variety of modes of communications and appropriate tools

  • Engage professionally and effectively to contribute to the success of a multicultural team, in a manner which is respectful of the needs, values, personalities and capabilities of others

  • Analyse data and utilise digital technologies to identify, source, analyse and communicate information relevant to business, social and sustainability challenges

  • Develop disciplinary knowledge and business skills for graduates to commence a career in business analytics

  • Apply the ethical use of unstructured data in business decision making

  • Implement and evaluate solutions to unfamiliar, constructed and real world business and technical problems

  • Apply fundamental information system design concepts and computer based techniques to devise innovative recommendations to solve business and social related problems
