All first- and second-year courses listed in the courses and curriculum schedule must be completed before applying for admission. A minimum 2.50 OU and combined retention GPA is required for admission to the Bachelor of Interior Design program.
Admission is limited to the top students applying for the program as determined by GPA (2.50 combined retention or higher) and portfolio review.
Curriculum changes are made periodically to meet changes in accreditation requirements, and to make the program as current as possible within reasonable parameters.
You will graduate under the program through which you entered unless you confirm in writing that you wish to work with a more recently adopted change. Always check in with your advisor each semester, even if you are quite clear about your planning.
The program strongly supports practicum/intern experience during summers and the school year.
The majority of employers would like you to have computer and intern experience prior to being hired by them! You may choose to receive credit for your experience(s), and the faculty encourage a paid experience.
Founded in 1890, the University of Oklahoma was actually established 17 years prior to Oklahoma’s statehood. So, while this venerable institution is, of course, dedicated to the success of its students, the university has always focused on contributing to the advancement of the entire state. This mindset is reflected in our official mission:
The mission of the University of Oklahoma is to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the state and society. The University of Oklahoma is the state’s flagship university.
OU is a major, public Research university that gives students the feel of a private college atmosphere. This is a storied institution, and our stories continue to span every aspect of student life imaginable – across three campuses that are full of curiosity, vigor and undying spirit.

At the School of Art and Design, we use design as a method for critical inquiry through which we address complex sociocultural and environmental issues in ??studio-based learning environments. We offer two Bachelor of Arts degrees in design: Integrated Design and Interior Architecture.
The BS Interior Design / MS Interior Architecture program offers a first-professional degree in interior design and a post-professional graduate degree for students looking to accelerate their career and/or specialize in an area of interior design.
Combining a comprehensive interior design curriculum with a strong liberal arts education, our professional-level Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design program offers a rich and memorable college experience.
To be awarded a minor, at least 12 units of coursework must be completely distinct and separate from the coursework in the major, and coursework for the minor must include a minimum of 6 upper-division units (University Policy S16-4).
The B.A. Interior Design is a four-year program structured into one year of pre-professional coursework and three years of major (professional) coursework. Professional program courses begin in second year fall. Due to the sequential nature of courses there are no spring admits.
