The programme trains nurses in general nursing and midwifery. Attendance at lectures, clinical health settings, including community settings and laboratories will form the basic pattern.
The programme will include a foundation in conducting research in nursing. Clinical learning placements will take place in South African Nursing Council (SANC) accredited facilities. The final year will focus on the specialisation of midwifery nursing practice. The planned teaching and learning experiences provide a broad foundation in basic sciences (medical and social sciences) as well as in-depth and comprehensive knowledge, skills and attitudes in clinical nursing to ensure that qualifying learners have the requisite knowledge and skills to function as professional nurses.
