This programme prepares graduates for the contemporary role of applying medical and scientific nursing foundation knowledge in providing nursing care to patient. It also provides a platform for graduates to practice nursing knowledge critically, and ethically based on evidence in health care delivery. 

Department of Nursing Science recognizes the importance of baccalaureate education in nursing and became the pioneer in the transition in the nursing education from a diploma to a graduate program, Bachelor of Nursing Science in Malaysia.

The Bachelor of Nursing Science is a four-year programme which prepares graduates for the contemporary rol of applying medical and scientific nursing foundation knowledge in providing nursing care to patient. At the end of the programme you will be conferred the Bachelor of Nursing Science degree.

The Bachelor of Nursing Sciences programme is offered by the Department of Nursing ciences,Faculty of Medicine. Department of Nursing Science was first established in 1993 as a Nursing Science unit under the Department of Allied Health Sciences. It was the first nursing unit to ecognize the importance of baccalaureate education in nursing and became the pioneer in the transiti n in the nursing education program by upgrading nursing education from an advanced diploma to a graduate programme, Bachelor of N rsing Sciences in Malaysia. The unit was established as a department - Department of Nursing Science in the Faculty of Medicine,University of Malaya on the 1st July 2007.

The aim of this programme is to produce nursing graduates with in-depth knowledge in nursing and medical sciences. Upon completion, graduates are expect d to practice nursing critically and ethically by applying scientific nursing foundation in health care delivery setting.

Our programme will provide you with a platform to practice nursing knowledge critically and ethically based on evidence in health care delivery. The graduate of this BNSc Programme will be a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Board of Malaysia and able to practice in all health care setting - hospitals (government and private), health centres, Nursing Homes, Industrial nurse, Nurse advisors, consultants or sales representatives for nume ous institutions which require nursing background as well as a researcher.

The programme was approve by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2010 and was accredited by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) in 2015.

To aid in the teaching and learning of our students, University Malaya has a large teaching hospital called the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). It has more than 1000 beds and more than 1 million patients per year, giving our students ample opportunities to practise the art of Nursing in a saf and supervised environment. UMMC is adjacent and physically connected to the Faculty of Medicine, creating a large complex dedicated to teaching, learning, research and health care.

Bachelor of Nursing Sciences Programme covers eight semesters and one special semester within 4 years and comprises of three core sciences which are Health Science, Behavioral Science and Nursing Science that specially designed to prepare nursing students with relevant knowledge, competencies and professionalism at undergraduate level.
