On graduating from the program you will possess the knowledge and skills necessary for working as an independent design professional or as a member of a collaborative design team. You will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage design projects end to end.
Our primary aim is to equip you for sustained creative fashion design practice and to identify and nurture each individual’s unique signature and specific fashion interest.
The program has been founded on the belief that creativity is best achieved when design exploration is supported by in-depth knowledge of, and hands on skills in, the craft of fashion and that sound technical knowledge is necessary for understanding the potential for innovation within the fashion garment.
The program content provides students with a comprehensive fashion design foundation and builds the students unique signature through in-depth investigation in fashion history, design, illustration, CAD, professional practice and realisation.
Ethical, social and environmental responsibility is central to our core educational principles and these concepts are explored in theoretical concepts and through the practical design projects.
At Level 200, you are introduced to the business of fashion and apply their design ability to market specific design briefs. You have the opportunity to explore various specialist fashion areas before majoring in a specific are of fashion such as menswear, tailoring, couture, surface textiles and fashion branding. The final year of the program is dedicated to the signature Graduate Collection that brings together all the learning in the program.
To achieve our aim to produce graduates that can manage design projects end to end, the graduate collection is a comprehensive brand proposal where the fashion collection is supplemented by a business plan, branding collateral, and a diverse promotional platform for communicating the brand, all of which is directed by you.

FDS at TAFE NSW was the first dedicated fashion design school in Sydney. Originally housed at the historic East Sydney Technical College, in 2005 the college moved to purpose built studios in the educational hub of Sydney.
