Ballroom Dancing is sophisticated, classy and beautiful. Dances include the Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep.
Latin American Dancing is passionate, complex, sexy and exciting. Dances include the Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.
We also teach Social Dances such as the Salsa, Mambo, Boogie, Bachata, American Smooth, East Coast Swing, Hustle and More!
It is preferable to have a partner, but it’s not essential. Single dancers have many interesting opportunities to compete, locally and internationally, and our Social classes are geared to accommodate single dancers as well as couples.
Having previously owned - together with Dave Campbell – Dancenter Ballroom and Latin American Studio in Johannesburg, Beverley decided to branch out into the Freestyle world.
Beverley danced with her partner, Dave Campbell, from the age of 13 and reached the Professional British, International and World Cup Finals, as well as being undefeated South African Ballroom and Latin American Champions.
Following her successful Ballroom and Latin career, it was quite a step to take on Freestyle!
After advertising in the Pretoria East Rekord newspaper, the first class started with 21 pupils ranging from 4-and-a-half to 16 years of age. In no time the classes were split into age groups and the rest is history!
In 2013 we opened a second branch in Centurion which is growing from strength to strength.
In recent years a few of our former pupils have qualified in other dance styles which prompted us to introduce Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acrobatics and Dancefit into the studio.
We are very proud of our teachers who have grown up in our studio and are now sharing their expertise and experience with the next generation. We are equally proud of the external teachers that have joined The Beverley Hammond Dance School family.
It is wonderful to have fresh and new ideas, as we constantly work to provide the best opportunities for our pupils.
Originating in the 1910’s and popularised by Harry Fox, a vaudeville star, this progressive smooth dance gained popularity in the 1930’s. The social foxtrot is the origin of all langarm/sokkie dancing in South Africa.
Crazy First Dance Special Course is offered by Rhythm Divine Dancing.
Slow Foxtrot Dance Lessons are offered by Phoenix Dance Company for all ages and skill levels. Whether you are with or without a dance partner, in our private dance lessons, you will receive one-on-one personalized instruction from your teacher according to your interests, needs and goals.
