This is a one-day course that provides participants with a basic understanding of types of rigging, fundamentals of rigging, and their lift capacities. This course provides hands-on demonstrations of actual lifts and is recommended for anyone working directly with or taking part in a lift. It’s also recommended as a refresher for someone knowledgeable with rigging, such as a crane operator.
Who is OETIM?
OETIM is a not-for-profit Private Vocational Institute that provides training for individuals interested in or already part of the construction industry.

The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Manitoba Inc. (OETIM) was established in 1986 as a joint Labour/Management not-for-profit organization with a primary directive of providing upgrading and training to people in the crane and heavy equipment industries. Dedicated to high-quality, personalized training, the institute has developed a solid reputation using its proprietary curriculum designated to heavy equipment operations.
The Institute is governed by a Board of Trustees represented by labour and management personnel. The institute’s revenue is comprised of monies received from individual tuition, employer sponsorships, contract training from federal and provincial projects, and The Trade Improvement Trust Fund.
OETIM is recognized as an educational facility through the Employment and Social Development Centre, a federal government division, and can therefore issue T2202 tax receipts to individuals who personally assume the cost of tuition.
Basic Rigging course includes 3 modules that cover the practices and techniques for safe slinging and rigging of loads. The material in this training course is designed for rigging personnel who work with all types of hoisting equipment.
Topics covered, but not limited to: OHSA CFR 1926.251, 1910.184 Rigger-Definitions Qualifications Rigging Identification Rigging Inspection Rigging Hardware
Participants discuss the hazards associated with overhead cranes, hoists and the rigging of loads. Relevant legislation will be explored along with the practical methods for recognizing and assessing these hazards
This course is designed for workers who are required to lift or move heavy loads. Course content includes: Identify potential rigging hazards Saskatchewan OH&S legislated standards Employer, supervisor and worker responsibilities Calculate load weights and limits.
