Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Evidence of identity (Photo).
  • Australian drivers license.
  • Medicare Card or Passport
  • 100 points required for lodgement of assessment.
  • Adequate English language numeracy and literacy skills. If not, please contact us. We can help.
  • Steel cap boots, high visibility shirt, hard hat, safety glasses.
  • We recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers and UV sunscreen. Steel cap runners are not acceptable. Safety sunglasses may be acceptable.
  • Scaffold tools and scaffold belt. Talk to us first if you are thinking of buying them.
  • Reasonable health fit for scaffold work.

Course Details

When working on scaffolding where a person could fall four meters or more you need to obtain a Basic Scaffolding high-risk work license.

The purpose of our Basic Scaffolding course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the basic level in many sectors, especially the construction and mining industries.

Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support workers and materials while building, repairing or maintaining buildings. It is commonly used on construction sites to keep workers safe when work cannot be done at ground level. There are many different types of basic scaffolding including mobile scaffolding, modular scaffolding, and prefabricated scaffolding to name a few.

The primary purpose of a scaffold is to provide a safe work platform for not only scaffolders but also all workers who will use the scaffold once it has been built. We pride ourselves on safety and our Basic Scaffolding Course is no exception. You will learn how to keep yourself and others safe

This course will give you the ability to efficiently plan a job, choose the appropriate plant and equipment to set up the task in hand and finally erect and dismantle scaffolding and equipment in conjunction with policies and procedures. The course is done at an intensive pace with a variety of real-world training conditions simulated by our trainers.

We have developed a detailed training plan that will teach you how to safely erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the basic level through written and practical teachings at their onsite training facility in Brisbane.

  • Worksite, plant and equipment hazards and measures used to control them
  • Understand site instructions and plans relevant to scaffolding and equipment
  • How to choose and inspect the appropriate scaffolding for the work to be carried out
  • Safely erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the basic level
  • Reporting of faulty equipment and the relevant isolation procedures
  • Safety equipment such as gin wheels, ropes, and safety nets
  • Load capabilities and limitations of the different types of scaffolding
  • Safe working loads and working load limit calculations
  • The importance of communication in the workplace
  • Australian legislation, standards, and codes of practice
  • Comply with OHS licensing legislation and state/territory government regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and personnel in the workplace
  • Identify potential risks and hazards and the ability to control such hazards using the hierarchy of control
  • Conduct before and after operational checks of all scaffolding plant and equipment
  • Erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding in a safe environment using appropriate equipment such as planks, ropes, hoists. Safety harness and safety nets
  • Work safely at heights using various safety equipment including fall arrest systems.
  • Interpret site structural charts and plans
  • Perform temporary connections using fiber ropes, guy ropes, and static lines
  • Understand the various soil types and ground conditions necessary for setting up plant and equipment.
  • Estimate safe working loads and working load limits using mathematical calculations
  • Maintenance requirements for basic scaffolding and isolation procedures due to faulty equipment
  • Interpret the manufacturer’s specifications in order to safely erect and dismantle scaffolding.
