Victoria is blessed with over 2500km of coastline stretching from Nelson to Mallacoota, incorporating almost 700 accessible beaches.
Using recognised Surf Life Saving Australia award materials, courses take into consideration the needs of school teachers, surf instructors and other outdoor recreation supervisors who are responsible for the safety of others in an open water environment.
The Community surf course is ideal for teachers and support staff associated with activities taking place at beach locations. It is also recommended for beach industry representatives such as boating and surfing instructors as well as those involved in aquatic tour operations.

Life Saving Victoria was formed in 2002 through the merger of Surf Life Saving Victoria and the Royal Life Saving Society Australia Victoria Branch. This formation of Life Saving Victoria created a single peak agency in the State for water safety that is recognised by the Victorian Government.
We forge new lifesaving and water safety initiatives while respecting the proud traditions and programs of the Royal Life Saving and Surf Life Saving National organisations.
Life Saving Victoria works under the umbrella of Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) as part of the State’s emergency management services and is recognised by the Victorian Government as a core agency that plays a role in delivering EMV’s strategic action plan.
Our other key links with government are in the areas of health and sport, and recreation.
