Our Beginners course runs on Tuesday evenings 6.30 – 9pm over 6 weeks from Jan 31st and is now full. If you missed out on this course we are also offering a four-week (10 hr) Learn to Sew Short Course on Saturday mornings 10am – 12.30pm commencing on February 4th and two others in March.
Skill level:
Suitable for absolute beginner’s with little or no experience using a sewing machine. Open to adults and young adults (minimum age 15yo) Men and non-binary folk are encouraged to attend! Open to adults and young adults (minimum age 14 yrs).
If you already have a minimum of 10 hours experience sewing accessories, craft projects and basic garments and are interested in developing more advanced clothes-making skills, read about our Beyond Basics Courses.
Course content:
Over the 15 hours duration of this course you will:
Make friends with your sewing machine – learn about the parts and how they work, how to wind a bobbin and thread your machine.
Become familiar with sewing terminology and the other equipment you will use.
Learn and practice many fundamental sewing skills.
Prepare, cut and sew 3 accessories / simple garments using a range of techniques.
Project 1 – Floor cushion or reversible tote bag
Project 2 -Zippered dopp kit/pouch or apron
Project 3 – Wide Legged lounge pants, box top or tee
Please note:
The class projects may vary over the duration of the course depending on the preferences of the student group.
We will provide:
Sewing machines and equipment if you don’t have your own. Materials for the first two projects.

If covid related circumstances prevent you from attending classes in the course you book we will offer make-up class options. Make-up classes for other reasons are offered at our discretion depending on availability.

If you are booking more than 6 weeks in advance, payment can be made in two instalments via Direct Deposit only with the 50% balance due three weeks before the commencement of classes.We will be in touch 10 days before your course starts with a reminder and more information.

Learn the basics of using your overlocker. Master threading, adjusting tensions, differential feed, stitch length, rolled hems and more. If you are scared to get your overlocker out of the box, dust it off and come to class (1 class)
This is a bit of fun! The Twisted Log Cabin is rotary cut and machine pieced using Foundation Piecing techniques. Not really suitable for the absolute beginner please.
This is the perfect workshop for quilters and textiles teachers, dressmakers and home decorators to design large pieces of fabric for all sewing projects and upcycle a garment or two as well.
