Course Details

This 4-session course of 3 hours each class is taught by Certified Palmer & Pletsch Sewing Instructor, Jayne Vetter. Jayne is a licensed Family & Consumer Science/Career & Technical Educator and has taught High School Textile & Design classes for over 30 years in the Portland area.

This class covers the fundamentals of beginning sewing for the new sewer, “haven’t-sewn-for-years” sewer, and those who desire a refresher. Learn the basics of sewing while making and completing a simple casing project of your choice.

In this fun class, you will learn several sewing techniques that you will find yourself using over and over on future sewing projects. Learn how to read a commercial pattern, follow a cutting layout, basic sewing techniques, complete samples for basic seaming, casing & hemming used with woven fabrics. By the end of the class you’ll have Incorporated these techniques into your chosen finished elastic casing project!

  • Session 1: Pattern & Fabric, Seam Sample
  • Session 2: Casing Sample, Cutting Layout
  • Session 3: Machine Hem Sample, Sewing Project
  • Session 4: Finish Sewing Project

 

Skill Level:

This class is for the confident beginner who knows how to thread their machine and fill the bobbin. New to sewing or simply wants a refresher and/or learn a different approach.

Homework: Finishing any work not completed during class time.
