What You'll Need
There are no formal entry requirements necessary for this course; this course is suitable for anybody who has already completed the 5 week Introduction to British Sign Language course at Eastleigh College or has some basic prior knowledge.
This Could Lead to
This British Sign Language Improvers course builds on prior knowledge and continues to assist learners to communicate more effectively with deaf people at a basic level.
It may also assist learners who want to work, or progress their career, in care, education or any other area where an ability to sign at a basic level would be beneficial.
Please note that this course is non vocational and does not lead to a qualification.

Fareham College
An Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated college that teaches over 3,200 students each year and offers a diverse range of courses. These include T Levels, traineeships, apprenticeships, HE, and part-time and professional courses. These courses help prepare students for employment in their chosen career path or progress to university or onto an apprenticeship.
The college was a wave one T Level provider in 2020 and is the lead college for the South Coast Institute of
Technology (IoT).
Southampton College
A well-established general further education college in Hampshire, providing career-led courses, apprenticeships and education for young people, adults and businesses. The college has been serving the City of Southampton for over 70 years and currently has around 3,000 students and apprentices.
CEMAST
Our Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Training (CEMAST) is an outstanding provider of career-led courses, including T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications. Our courses will open the doors to many exciting progression and career opportunities.
CETC
Our Civil Engineering Training Centre (CETC) is a purpose-built two-acre mock construction site close to our CEMAST training centre on the Daedalus Airfield, and is dedicated to the delivery of a specialist Civil Engineering & Groundworks Apprenticeship and also specialist training in Highways.

A ten-hour course consisting of basic and everyday sign language for greetings, family, clothes, colours, food and finger spelling. Brief information about the structure of the British Sign Language (BSL) level 1 course will be given by the tutor.
British Sign Language course is offered by The University of Edinburgh Short Courses. Our courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers who are extremely dedicated to ensuring you leave with all the necessary skills to broaden your horizons and never be lost for words again.
This session is ‘must do’ training for your front line colleagues, supporting them to gain knowledge, skills and confidence to have a basic conversation with a deaf BSL user.
Teaching front line staff the basic British Sign Language tools to effectively and confidently deal with customers.
You will study all aspects of deafness as a social and cultural phenomenon. You will be immersed in Deaf culture, history and education, will develop fluency in British Sign Language and will learn sign linguistics and the theories surrounding BSL/English interpreting.
