Program Description:

Business Administration - Leadership and Management is a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program (laptop required). Students complete the two-year Business Diploma program and then proceed on to this advanced diploma program. 

The Business Administration - Leadership and Management curriculum builds on the hands-on skills obtained in the two-year Business diploma program by focusing on the critical skills and knowledge central to the advancement of any business professional.

Students explore subject matter including strategic planning, leadership principles and practices, performance management, social responsibility, sustainability, organizational change, global business, and creativity and innovation in business. 

Additionally, students foster the decision-making skills that are in demand in today's economy.  Opportunities for experiential learning are integral to the program, allowing students to explore management in practice and apply their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Graduates of this program are well-positioned to leverage their knowledge and skills to move into management positions and leadership roles in a wide variety of organizations.

Students also can earn all the education credits required for the Certified in Management (CIM) designation from the Canadian Institute of Management.

 

Other Information:

  • Students that have successfully completed the Business program or the Business (Co-op) program, and wish to continue with the Business Administration - Leadership and Management program, must complete an "Application for Program Transfer" form available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.
  • The Business Administration - Leadership and Management program is a laptop program.

  • Graduates of the program will have fulfilled all of the education requirements to use the CIM designation of the Canadian Institute of Management.

  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.

  • This program is eligible for consideration of college to college transfer of credits under the Ontario Provincial ONCAT agreement.

  • A laptop computer is to be purchased by the student approximately $1000.00.  The cost of the laptop is included in the General Expenses stated in the Fee Schedule.

  • A CONNECT lab fee of $50.00 per academic term is included in the Additional Program Fees stated in the Fee Schedule. This fee helps cover costs associated with the delivery of the CONNECT mobile computing program. 

  • Students should not purchase a laptop computer or software until the College publishes the recommended configuration, models, software titles and versions for that academic year.

 

Learning Outcome:

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Ealuate the impact of global issues on an organization’s business opportunities by using an environmental scan*.
  • Apply principles of corporate sustainability*, corporate social responsibility and ethics to support an organization’s business initiatives.
  • Assess and use current concepts/systems and technologies to support an organization's business initiatives.
  • Conduct and present research to support business decision-making.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate projects by applying project management principles.
  • Perform work in compliance with relevant statutes, regulations and business practices.
  • Apply human resource practices to support management objectives and the organization’s goals.
  • Use accounting and financial principles to support the management and operations of an organization.
  • Assess marketing and sales concepts and strategies and apply them to the needs of an organization.
  • Outline principles of supply chain* management and operations management and assess their impact on the operations of an organization.
  • Participate in the development of a business plan.
  • Develop strategies for ongoing personal and professional development to enhance work performance in the business field.
  • Outline strategies used to manage risks in an organization's business activities.

 

Important Information: 

Students wishing to enter the Business Administration - Leadership and Management program must first successfully complete the Business program or the Business (Co-op) program.
