This Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration, accredited by Highfields, is a practical skills based qualification, ideal if you are seeking employment in office based roles and settings.

Whether you are wanting a career change from other roles or already have some experience but are seeking a formal qualification to improve your prospects for higher level roles, this qualification will be an asset to your CV. This course includes elements of essential business IT skills alongside effective communication and dealing with complaints.

You will learn about
The knowledge and skills necessary to function effectively and independently in administration roles in any industry, including:

  • Personal responsibilities and working in a business environment
  • Providing administrative services
  • Managing information and producing documents
  • Working in the public sector
  • Principals of project management and contributing to innovation and change

What to expect

  • Delivered in classroom or online by qualified teachers with professional administration experience, the level 2 qualification is assessed by building a portfolio of evidence for your knowledge and practical skills and delivered and assessed in classroom through taught sessions with written and spoken assessments. You do not need a placement to complete this course, but some background understanding of the role or opportunities to apply and practice your learning will be beneficial. You will be assessed practically, building a portfolio of evidence to prove your ability to carry out a range of administrative tasks autonomously in a relevant work context. There are no exams in this course.

Entry requirements

  • You will be asked to complete an initial assessment prior to this course, to determine if this will be the right level for you. You will need to have English and Maths skills equivalent to GCSE or Level 1 Functional Skills for this course. If you do not have proof of these qualifications, you will need to undertake an English and Maths assessment before joining this course. Essential digital skills are necessary and access to a computer (Windows or Mac) outside of class time is essential for homework completion. If you need support, you can access free essential digital skills courses before or alongside this course.

Where will the course lead?

  • After this course you will be confident to seek employment in administrative roles in a range of industry sectors. For advancement into supervisory roles the ILM level 2 Certificate in Team Leading would be a good progression choice or further qualifications in Project Management (e.g. PRINCE2, APM,PMI) will be possible if you want to develop the basic knowledge and skills covered int his course. However, if you are considering higher education routes into professional roles, a Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma in Business would be the best next step on your learning journey.
