What will I study?

The qualification prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5-7 years. Upon successful completion of the course you will gain a licence to practice.

The course is made up of 16 units including 1 professional practice portfolio which will allow you to link your classroom based theory into practice.

You will be required to undertake significant periods of work placement which will be assessed to develop your competence when caring for and interacting with babies
and young children.

A minimum of 750 placement hours is required within the following 3 age ranges:

  • 0 -1 year 11 months
  • 2 -2 years 11 months
  • 3 -5 years

This will be followed by a specialised placement, in the area of your choice. This will be highlighted upon your yearly timetable showing where block periods of study/placement will occur.
