Overview
This qualification develops the knowledge and awareness of the causes of infection and how these can be managed and controlled. It has been specifically designed for the health and social care sector and covers preventing the spread of infection, cleaning and waste disposal processes and current legislation.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements.
Once you have applied, we will carry out a short skills assessment and signpost you to other courses if this is not the appropriate course for your needs.

Causes and spread of infection
Cleaning, decontamination and waste management
Benefits/Skills
This qualification aims to prepare learners for further learning or training and/or develop knowledge and skills in a subject area.
Learners will develop an understanding of methods of preventing and controlling infection, allowing for progression to the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. It may also allow learners to progress into employment in Healthcare settings, or Adult and Child Social care Settings.
Careers/Progression
The units of the Level 2 Award are embedded in the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. As such, learners could progress directly to the Diploma, which in turn would allow learners to register on the Health and Social Care Apprenticeship.
Although not confirming occupational competence, it would aid progression into the workplace as it is an employer requirement in all Health settings.

Sporting activities
The College runs a number of sporting activities including table tennis, zumba and football. New activities are introduced throughout the year and are publicised around the college.

Fundraising
Each year the College run a number of fundraising activities which support both local and national charities. Whilst all students are encouraged to join in activities, Fundraising forms part of Level 1 study programme.

Volunteering
The College actively encourages students to participate in volunteering opportunities. It is recognised volunteering offers students the opportunity to meet new people, have fun and develop essential employability skills.
Examples of volunteering students have participated in are marshalling at sports events, working in a charity shop, supporting at a youth club and running community events.
