The Career Exploration & Development Skills Certificate is designed to allow students to both explore their own career development as well as become familiar with current career counselling research, concepts, and employment facilitation skills.
The Career Exploration & Development Skills Certificate is designed to allow students to both explore their own career development as well as become familiar with current career counselling research, concepts, and employment facilitation skills.
Students will be trained to a level of competence enabling them to provide a variety of approaches to career exploration and employment counselling applicable across different community settings.
It is available in both on-campus and distance education formats. Courses are in-depth with 60 hours of classroom time in each which is about double the time in similar university courses.
This extra time allows for a high level of hands on skill practice. Courses are taught by experienced counsellors who have specialized knowledge in this area.
The program exposes students to a wide range of contemporary models of career exploration and counselling techniques applicable to a variety of populations and cultural groups.
In addition, earning the Career Exploration & Development Skills Certificate also allows students to apply credits earned in this certificate toward other VCCT diplomas should students want to further their counselling education and skills.

Our diplomas, specialized certificates, and certificate programs are offered to both new students and experienced practitioners already working in community service agencies or private practice.
All programs and courses at VCCT are available to Canadian and International Students both on-campus or through distance education.
Students who enroll at VCCT may be interested in personal growth, exploring a new career, completing a College Diploma for its own value or as a step towards further University training, or to enhance and upgrade their practitioner skills and abilities.
Courses are designed to provide adequate theoretical background knowledge of counselling and practical skill training, which can be immediately applied to counselling situations.
Our courses are based on the most current and widely recognized research, techniques, academic and ethical standards in the counselling field today.
Our instructors, professional and practicing psychologists, counsellors and therapists are able to use their own practical wisdom and insights gained throughout their careers to enrich the learning process for VCCT students and are dedicated to providing a meaningful educational experience.
During the course, students will develop and apply such skills as setting goals, developing job search strategies, using planning and organizing tools, maintaining records, communicating, decision making; and negotiating.
We offer career training that's important for all employees and workspaces
Professional listening in the workplace; understanding and applying small talk strategies to get along in the workplace, high quality of customer service and handling complaints professionally, workplace meetings, agendas, motions, minutes taking, and appropriate business vocabulary.
We can provide one of our standard workshops or a customized workshop.
The Career Development Grant provides funding assistance (up to $4,000) for individual heritage practitioners to participate in opportunities that will result in gaining new skills and knowledge to support the development of heritage work in Edmonton.
