Course Details

This line of work involves people providing direct care to children and youth and their families. The child and youth care worker is responsible for using his/her expertise to maintain a healthy environment that is also secure that will help children and the youth to reach their full potential.

 

Occupational Responsibilities:

  • Provide physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual care

 

Duration:

  • 1 year
  • The learning programme will be presented twice a year

 

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 3 with Communication
  • Occupational Task Details
  • Provide holistic, basic and developmental care for orphaned, vulnerable and at risk children and youth (NQF Level 5)

 

Certification:

  • Child and Youth Care Worker NQF Level 5 by Quality Council Trade and Occupation (QCTO).

 

Intake

There will be two intakes during the course of the year. January intake: February (registration take place from July previous year until 15 January the year of commensal. June intakes: (registration will take place from March same year until first of June of the commensal year

 

Evaluation and Examination

Learners will be formatively assessed in theoretical studies on the basis of assignments, an individual and group project and short test. Assignments, case studies, problem-solving techniques and participation in discussion will be taken into account in locating final mark

Learners will also be formatively assessed in real work environment on the basis of observation in natural setting; unobtrusive or planned. Behaviour and performance will be evaluated. Summative assessment (National Examination) is carried by Health and Welfare Sector of Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) which is the Assessment Quality Partner for Quality Council for Trade and Occupation (QCTO)
