ids’ Carpentry is a hands on toy building experience designed to teach kids, 5-13, practical woodworking skills with an emphasis on the safe use of hand tools. While kids construct fun and exciting projects they are also empowered to become independent thinkers–building confidence, self-esteem, and a repertoire of practical skills that will last them a lifetime!
This course will teach you how to prepare a bowl blank with an axe (via demonstration/instruction), how to turn that blank into a bowl using turning hooks and various techniques, and how to finish the bowl with drying oils, paint, and other finishes.
Starting with rough hewn boards, students move through all the main machines in the shop. We cover jointing, planing and spend a good amount of time on the table saw.
Designed to prepare students for entry-level work or to upgrade their existing skills in woodworking. Course has a hands-on focus that covers safety procedures, furniture design, hand and machine tools, materials identification and applications, fabrication processes, and project planning.
The Basic Certificate in Construction Carpentry prepares students for an entry level apprentice position with a construction contractor. The program provides instruction in tool safety and usage, construction materials, work site safety, blueprint reading, and mathematical concepts.
This class is designed to be the core introductory class that covers good studio practices while learning how to safely use all of the equipment and tools in the main woodworking studio. It will also be the primary prerequisite class for most of the more advanced woodworking classes.
