Course Introduction
The CAT and Genny Operator Training Course delivers 3 hours of theory and practical instruction. It provides delegates and supervisors / managers with the essential knowledge needed to safely and correctly operate a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) along with a Signal Generator (GENNY) when tracing underground services, and also provides experienced operatives with refresher training.
No previous experience is necessary although some practical experience of groundwork and excavations would be beneficial.

Delegates will be awarded certification following successful completion of practical sessions and a multi-choice assessment.

The course involves hands on use of location detectors to identify and trace the route of buried underground services, it is designed to provide competence in reading/understanding service plans as well as using locating equipment correctly and safely.
This enables working practice to be in line with relevant health and safety guidance (e.g. HSG 47 - Avoiding Danger from Underground Services), thereby enabling the user to accurately locate underground services in order to avoid damaging them during excavation works.
This course is suitable for those involved in excavation work including; operators, utilities personnel, supervisors, and managers.
