This course will help counsellors, and others in helping professions, affect positive change in clients’ lives by integrating cognitive behavioral counselling approaches.

What You Will Learn?

  • Articulate the fundamental principles and theories behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
  • Recognize the appropriate applications and limitations of CBT in various situations.
  • Develop plans to incorporate CBT tailored to individual client needs.
  • Describe specific CBT techniques and exercises.
  • Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of CBT interventions in a client's healing or wellness journey.
  • Recognize the ethical considerations related to CBT in practice.
  • Communicate effectively about CBT principles, techniques, and outcomes to clients and other professionals.

Details

Course Prerequisites:

  • Completion or current enrolment in a counselling program or current employment is in a helping profession preferred but not required.

Learning Objectives:

  • The main goal of this course is to help students successfully use CBT, when appropriate, in their counselling practice.

Requirements:

  • Students must complete each section and pass the final exam with a score of 80%.

Method Of Student Evaluation:

  • Formative assessment will be via checks for understanding that must be passed before progressing to the next section. A final open book quiz will be used as the summative assessment.
