A certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety training (also known as cert 4 WHS or OHS) is the recommended minimum requirement for workplace safety representatives.

Although the course length and scope is not as comprehensive as a Diploma course, which would be more suitable for a role as a WH&S Compliance Manager, the Cert IV is suitable as a strong foundation and introduction into the world of WH&S compliance management, legalities and legislations, as well as risk minimisation.

This course is also well-suited to those who act in various supporting roles in the field of Health and Safety and also Risk Management in the Workplace.

Face-to-face WHS course equips participants with the basic knowledge required to act in a WHS/Compliance Manager support/assistant role. Whilst not as comprehensive as a diploma or Advanced Diploma course, the units of competency covered, – listed below – are essential requirements to work in the field of WHS and Risk Management/Minimisation.

Cert IV WHS training course consists of 4-5 days face-to-face classroom-based training. Students are expected to complete readings and a project/written assessment task in their own time. Following the topics and units of competency will be covered:

  • BSBWHS402 – Assist with compliance with WHS Laws
  • BSBRES401 – Analyse and present research information
  • BSBWHS403 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBINN301 – Promote innovation in a team environment
  • BSBMGT401 – Show leadership in the workplace
  • BSBWHS404 – Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • BSBWHS405 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS406 – Assist with responding to incidents
  • BSBCMM401 – Make a presentation
  • BSBWHS409 – Assist with workplace monitoring processes

 

Cert IV WHS Training Course Information

Course Details

  • Laptop or Tablet Device Required
  • A Laptop or portable tablet device with WiFi functionality is required.
  • The majority of our course material is saved onto our online Open Learning platform so that participants can access the information they require from anywhere.
  • A laptop or WiFi enabled tablet device is necessary to complete some Open Learning registration and to access course materials during the face-to-face training sessions.

 

5 Consecutive Days Course

This course format is designed for those who need to complete an intensive series of training sessions in a short period of time, in order to fulfil compliance or other work requirements.

We found that this course has been particularly useful in the case of founding or newly developing businesses who need a qualified WH&S representative as quickly as possible to meet compliance concerns.

 

4 Days Over 4 Weeks Course

On the other hand, if you can’t afford to miss a week of work, or have a nominated staff member away for an entire week, our 4 training session over 4 weeks would be right for you. Generally running on a Tuesday, the course would go on for 4 Tuesdays in a month.
