Change Management is the definitive certification for professionals dealing with organizational change, transition and transformation.

APMG Change Management training (developed in collaboration with the Change Management Institute) is designed to help organizations and their people manage the impact of change and provide techniques to effectively plan and implement successful transformation initiatives.

Based on the Second (2022) Edition of Change Management Institute's Change Management Body of Knowledge (CMBoK) - APMG Change Management courses explore how change affects, and is affected by, individuals, teams, organizations and change leaders, equipping individuals with the knowledge, theories and techniques to:

  • Leash resistance to change

  • Provide effective support and motivation to individuals and teams to embrace change

  • Draw from a range of professional approaches to implement change smoothly and effectively

  • Manage and inform key stakeholders throughout the change process

  • Speed up the implementation of change initiatives.

This 5 days change management course will help delegates to:

  • Explain the current context of change and how this is evolving

  • Understand major drivers of change and the organisational context of a change including the effects of organisational culture

  • Describe different approaches to planning and delivering change, including the value of collaborative ‘co-design’ approaches

  • Assess the impact of change and identify ways to support people through change, developing strategies to overcome resistance and build motivation for change

  • Support people who are in key change roles and help them build an effective change team

  • Explain how understanding of human dynamics and organisational context is changing the way we approach change

  • Analyse stakeholders and power dynamics to develop appropriate engagement strategies and develop effective communication and engagement plans for change

  • Identify different types of measurement that can be used to track the effectiveness of change management activities and apply change analytics for change management

  • Apply key principles to define what needs to be learned by those involved in a change initiative

  • Understand how to provide effective and developmental feedback to support others through change

  • Apply coaching principles when supporting change leaders at every level

  • Demonstrate how to recognise and deal with different sources of conflict during change

  • Consider effective ways to facilitate groups to enable collaboration and co-design of change.

  • Understand ways to sustain change by identifying organisational levers, adoption approaches and reinforcing systems to help embed change in an organisation

  • Prepare for the Foundation and Practitioner exams

Foundation exam is scheduled to be held on the third day and practitioner exam on fifth day. 

 

Course Outline

Five key areas are in the syllabus of Change Management course (at foundation level), which ate covered over three days:

  1. Organisational context and approach - OA

  2. People and change - PC

  3. Change leadership and teams - CT

  4. Stakeholders and communication - SC

  5. Work of the change manager - WM

The change management practitioner course will cover following topics over two days:

  • Sustaining change

    • Types of levers for change

    • Tipping point and critical mass

    • Roger’s adoption model

  • Learning for change

    • Introduction to effective instruction

    • Learning needs and objectives - knowledge, skills and attitudes

  • Coaching for change

    • Active listening

    • Giving developmental feedback

    • Framework for coaching

  • Handling Conflict in Change

    • Conflict in change situation and conflict management

  • Facilitation for co-design

    • Facilitation principles for co-design

  • Change Leaders (e.g. Senior Responsible Owners)

  • Change Support (e.g. Programme Office)

  • Change Implementers (e.g. Programme Managers)

  • Change ‘Agents’ (e.g. Business Change Managers)

  • Operational Line Managers/Staff would also benefit from a higher level of understanding

 

Prerequisites

Project and/ or Change management experience is preferred but not essential for Change Management Foundation level.

Change Management Foundation exam must be passed before attempting Change Management Practitioner level exam.
