Service owners, management committees and/or Nominated Supervisors may like to ask their staff to complete the Statement of Attainment in CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk qualification to ensure they are fully aware of the laws and their obligations to meet the requirements of regulation 84 (see below).

The Education and Care Services National Regulations state:
Chapter 7 Part 7.3 Division 3 Regulation 273
273 – Course in child protection
The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that the nominated supervisor of the service and any certified supervisor in day to day charge of the service has successfully completed a course in child protection approved by the New South Wales Regulatory Authority.
Chapter 4 Part 4.2 Division 1 Regulation 84
84 – Awareness of child protection law
The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that the nominated supervisor and staff members at the service who work with children are advised of:
the existence and application of the current child protection law; and
any obligations that they may have under that law.
Penalty: $1000. Note. A compliance direction may be issued for failure to comply with this regulation.
