In September 2011, in cooperation with the Regional Language Center of the Organization of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education and the College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University, the professional degree of "Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages" was launched in Singapore for the first time in September 2011.

This course is aimed at cultivating Chinese teachers who are engaged in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, and high-level professionals who are engaged in the research of Chinese language and culture and the application of Chinese according to the actual conditions of various countries. 

The registration deadline for the autumn class (classes start in September) is mid-May, and the comprehensive test is in mid-June. The registration deadline for spring classes (classes start in March next year) is at the end of October, and the comprehensive test will be held in mid-November.

The predecessor of Jinan University was the Jinan School founded in Nanjing in 1906. Jinan University has 24 colleges, 49 departments, 121 research institutes and 84 laboratories. 72 undergraduate majors; 134 master's degree authorized disciplines, 6 doctoral degree authorized first-level disciplines, and 39 doctoral degree authorized second-level disciplines. 

At present, there are 40,581 students of various types, including 28,598 full-time students, 8,653 doctoral and master students, and 19,241 undergraduates. There are 12019 overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign students in the school. Jinan University is famous for running schools in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and overseas.

Jinan University has strong teaching staff for the major of "Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages". The subject currently has 13 professors, 33 associate professors, and 65 lecturers; 41 have doctoral degrees; 4 doctoral supervisors and 25 master supervisors. The teaching and research personnel of this major have long been committed to the research of Chinese ontology and application, and Chinese teaching research, and promoted the international spread of Chinese, and have achieved important results in academic research, personnel training, and textbook compilation.

Jinan University's Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages ??program for the 2024 spring class will start recruiting students from now on. Interested applicants please register before November 17, 2023 (Friday) (tentative).

Identity conditions

1. Citizens of Singapore and other countries (non-Chinese).      
2. People from Hong Kong and Macau holding a Hong Kong or Macau permanent resident identity card and a "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents" or a "Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents".       
3. People from the Taiwan area who hold the "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" or "Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents".     
4. Overseas Chinese:      

• A permanent resident of Singapore who has lived in Singapore for 2 consecutive years (as of the closing date of the application), and has lived in Singapore for no less than 18 months in total within the two years; or                
• Hold a Singapore work permit, and have obtained the legal residence status in Singapore for more than 5 consecutive years (including 5 years, as of the closing date of registration), and have lived in the country of residence for no less than 30 months within 5 years. Studying abroad and working abroad for business cannot be regarded as settled.

Academic qualifications and degree requirements

• Have obtained a bachelor's degree certificate or a bachelor's degree certificate from a university in mainland China or a famous university overseas, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
• If you have not obtained a bachelor's degree when applying for the examination, but have obtained a junior college degree or an equivalent degree, and have more than 2 years of work experience after graduation from junior college.

• Please send scanned copies of your passport, highest degree certificate and academic certificate, and new residence permit to [email protected] to confirm your eligibility.    

After we confirm that you meet the application requirements, we will send you the RELC application form by email and ask you to submit other application materials, such as overseas residence status, expert recommendation letters, etc.

In addition, we will also ask you to pay the registration fee and administration fee of SGD 350 (bank transfer or PAYNOW).

Registration fee and administration fee once paid are non-refundable.

Entrance Exam

Eligible applicants must take the Jinan University Entrance Examination. 

Interview

• The interview time is twenty minutes.

Comprehensive test (written test

• The comprehensive written test mainly examines candidates' mastery of professional basic knowledge and basic theories. The written test subjects are Modern Chinese and Introduction to Linguistics.
• The written test is three hours long.
• Written test date: December 3, 2023 (Sunday) morning (tentative)

An additional test (written test) for equivalent education (an additional test is required for a junior college degree)          

• The written test subjects are ancient Chinese literature and writing.
•  The written test is three hours long.
