Course Offerings
Dallas College offers beginning and intermediate Chinese courses. Check the credit class schedule for current course availability.
The Core Curriculum
Chinese courses are part of the Dallas College Core Curriculum. Ask your success coach whether you can incorporate Chinese courses into your degree plan.
Placement
If you are already proficient in Mandarin Chinese and feel that you are ready to skip one or more levels, you may take a placement exam. The placement exam will be used only for placement. It will not give you credit for any courses skipped. Before deciding whether or not to take a placement exam, please consult with your success coach.
Concurrent (Noncredit) Enrollment
If you'd like to take a college-level Chinese class but do not need college credit, you can take it “concurrently" for noncredit. A concurrent section may already exist on the Continuing Education (CE) schedule. Please contact a CE success coach if you have any questions.

Mandarin Chinese is spoken by over 1 billion people worldwide making it the world’s most spoken language. With the Chinese Economy set to become the world’s largest in 10 years, Mandarin is an increasingly advantageous language to learn.Â
Cantonese Classes are offered by San Jose Learning Center. This class is taught at a standard learning pace and with an ideal class size. This type of class is recorded and emailed to students each week.
Chinese students learn the basics of Chinese such as greetings, classroom phrases and conversational skills. They also learn how to shop, order food and discuss in detail their schedules and activities. They can form basic sentences and also be able to read and write pinyin and some Chinese.
There is a focus on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in addition to learning grammar. Vocabulary building is approached from a number of angles.
The Chinese Language Academy provides effective and engaging Chinese Mandarin programs to children and teenagers.  We collaborate with charter schools and private academies to bring high quality Chinese Mandarin programs to their students.  CLA also offers afterschool and weekend classes, pr...
