China will play a major role in world affairs in the future. Chinese is the language most spoken in the world! One out of five people is Chinese. If you can speak Chinese, you can communicate with more people different from yourself than with any other language, and learn about one of history's most enduring civilizations and one of the most diverse cultures.

Mandarin is a group of related languages used across the north and southwest of China; the common version known as 'standard Chinese' is based on the Beijing dialect. With around a billion speakers across the globe, Mandarin is spoken by more people than any other language (including English) making it a hugely valuable tool for conducting business. It is also a terrific challenge because of the complexity of both spoken and written forms.
