The CALA approach to learning languages focuses on high-frequency vocabulary—the words, phrases, expressions, and grammar that you are most likely to encounter in day-to-day life. We go narrow-and-deep with this vocabulary.

CALA courses foster a "whole language" classroom environment wherein students and the instructor constantly communicate with each other in real-time. Participants are exposed to grammar naturally in a communicative context rather than "taught grammar points" explicitly.

Welcome to CALA: The Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition! We are the official language training center of the University Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University.
Our classes are based on brain research. So, if you want to learn Spanish fast and easy, this is the way! Don’t worry. We also offer French language classes, as well as Chinese, German, and more.
At CALA, we use methods like TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). What does that mean? It means our accelerated classes are engaging, natural, and a fun language-learning experience!
Believe it or not, CALA also offers unique yoga classes for stress management. Because you learn so much better when you’re happy! While we do offer classes throughout the year, most of them are during the summer. So, if you’re looking for some summer fun in Tennessee, CALA is the place to be!
And if you’re a teacher who wants to learn these advanced techniques to use in the classroom (for all ages!), we also offer a methodology course.
In this course, the student will be able to develop socially and culturally appropriate proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes at the novice mid-level in Mandarin Chinese. Note: Students must pass this course with a C or better to continue to CHI1121. ( 4 hr. lecture )
Students are introduced to the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing (typing), as well as to Chinese culture.
Chinese Language Courses is provided by Evergreen State College.You can study language along with the history, literature, and culture of a particular region or country either in stand-alone language courses or embedded in full-time programs along with other areas of study.
Chinese classes are offered by International Language School. We have experienced and passionate teachers who go beyond teaching grammar and communication to help students appreciate and value the language, culture, and history of the countries they are learning about.
We offer Chinese (Mandarin) classes for all levels of students, and take pride in providing L.A.'s premier Chinese (Mandarin) instruction, with highly educated, native-speaking Chinese (Mandarin) teachers and university texts.
