Close Protector (VIP Protection)

Purpose: The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Close Protector. A Close Protector proactively and reactively facilitates safety and security of a defined client, whilst on foot, in a venue or vehicle, effectively rendering these environments more secure with respect to physical threats, harassment, embarrassment and discomfort with minimal impact on the client's daily activities.

A qualified learner will be able to:

• Provide close protection to a designated principal within the close protection environment.
• Conduct risk assessment, venue and vehicle search using appropriate tools and techniques related to close protection services.
• Plan a protection operation.
• Assess and respond appropriately to identified threats.
• Respond appropriately to Improvised Explosive Devices.
• Perform close personal protection duties.
• Manage a close personal protection operation.
• Apply advanced driving tactics to operate vehicles under operational conditions.
• Undertake embus and debus functions.
• Use verbal communication to manage conflict, manage crowds.
• Communicate in a close personal protection environment.
• Conduct briefings and debriefings in a policing environment.
