Community Leadership

Community leadership programs identify issues of community interest, increase community networking, and increase understanding of civic responsibility. WHLI supports leaders who have a commitment to civic engagement, to learning, and to collaboration.

The West Houston Leadership Institute (WHLI) is a breakthrough community leadership program. Leaders from corporate, non-profit and community organizations apply to participate in a 10-month program to learn and dialogue about issues that affect West Houston.

In addition to a full- day Opening and Closing Retreat, participants meet monthly for a half-day to explore focus areas such as Education, Healthcare, Quality of Life and Transportation.

This session presents an overview of local government and its relationship to other governmental bodies. Our community’s elected officials meet, speak with, and interact with the class on issues that are important to West Houston. It is a goal of WHLI to familiarize the class with methods of effecting change through the governmental process.
