DurationTo be a member of a competition group it requires commitment to the Academy team. Troupe members practise weekly and are required to get a studio jacket for wearing to competitions as well as purchasing a one off costume per troupe dance.
As well as competing in various Auckland Competitions throughout the year students have the option of travelling nationally and/or internationally each year. There are also opportunities for performing out when we get invited to perform at various public events.
Solo, duo, trio dance competition work
Auckland West Dance Academy is a Glen Eden dance school established over 45 years ago providing high-quality dance tuition by qualified teachers. Dance classes are taught in a warm and friendly environment. Students have the opportunity to perform on stage in the annual dance concert and enter into examinations, assessments, or medal tests.
Dance styles taught are Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap as well as Body Conditioning/Technical classes, competition dancing and private lessons are available.
We offer classes for preschoolers, girls, boys, teenagers, and adults. Class numbers are restricted to ensure that each student can get the individual attention that they require.
All teachers are fully qualified and are members of RAD, JDNZ, NZAMD, and BAL. There are 3 dance studios (studio 1 upstairs, studios 2 and 3 downstairs); there is an office with a dancewear shop and a waiting area with tea/coffee facilities for parents.
We choreograph dances for competitions and medal test performances, in both Ballet and Jazz.
Competition work is open to all students who would like the opportunity to extend and challenge themselves as a dancer.
We explore movement in order to build confidence and encourage self-expression. choreography is taught to enhance kinesthetic learning. focus on fun and creativity. primary age, non-graded, non-auditioned.
We learn different styles of hip-hop and street dance as a synergistic crew. choreography is taught in small combos and full routines. focus on fun and building character through teamwork. open age, non-graded, non-auditioned.
Advanced dance training for the solo, duo, and small group categories at national and global competitions. open age auditioned, based in Auckland central.
